“Hold The President & His Administration Responsible” – ASUU Laments As They Set Out On A Fresh Strike Crisis
The Academic Staff Union of Universities
(ASUU) has said it has not heard anything from the federal government since
they both met last Thursday.
Recall that ASUU had met with the Federal government
last week, a meet that concluded they said was concluded that the government
had promised to pay ASUU that week. But representative speaker for ASUU
explained on Tuesday that the Federal government had not commenced payment and
had not reached out after the meeting. Hence adds that the given ultimatum
still stands, as ASUU had given the government three weeks and one week has
passed; they are left with two weeks.
ASUU had earlier given the federal government
an ultimatum following the failure of the government to fulfill some of the
agreements it made with the union in 2020.
The government had promised to pay the #30billion
revitalisation fund to universities while also agreeing to release #22.1billion
earned allowances to university workers.
Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, ASUU National
President, had also expressed his bitterness as to the pressure placed by the
government on members of his union as regards joining the Integrated Personnel
Payment Information System.
The union also criticized President Muhammady
Buhari’s administration for breach of agreement nine (9) months after ASUU had
agreed to suspend it strike action. The union has however conclusively beseeched
lecturers, staffs and students in various tertiary institutions in Nigeria to
hold the President and his administration responsible if the educational system
becomes engulfed in a fresh crisis.
