Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has approved the appointment of Dr. Abdul Jimoh Mohammed as substantive Rector of the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, a government’s statement said on Friday. The statement was signed by the Secretary to the State Government Prof Mamman Saba Jibril. Mohammed was until his appointment the Deputy Rector (Academics) at the Federal Polytechnic Offa (FPO), Kwara State. Three Nigerians have been injured in fresh xenophobic attacks in Mpumalanga Province, South Africa, PUNCH reports. This comes less than a week after a Nigerian, Ikenna Otugo, was reportedly stabbed to death by unknown persons in Empageni, South Africa. The management of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) has warned its customers against making cash payments during the ongoing Metre Asset Provider (MAP) scheme. The Executive Director, Commercial, Mr. Abu Ejoor, speaking at the launch of the Ondo State MAP scheme in Akure, said none of the customers across the four states of coverage of the electricity company should pay cash to anybody. "Once a customer’s premises is cleared, such customer would be advised on how to pay for the meter, whether single-phase or three-phase, the price of which is N38, 350 and N70, 350 respectively,” he said. He listed requirements for the installation to include passport photograph, a utility bill for postpaid customers and vending slip for prepaid customers, telephone numbers and email addresses. The federal government has opposed the move of telcos to increase charges on use unstructured supplementary service data (USSD) channels to access banking services. Some telecommunications network service providers had  sent notices to their subscribers  that with effect from October 21, USSD will attract extra charges. “ Please note that from Oct 21, we will charge N4 per 20 seconds for USSD access to banking services. Thank you,” read a notification MTN sent to customers on Sunday. But a few hours after this message went viral, Isa Pantami, minister of communications, directed telcos to halt the plan. “The attention of the federal ministry of communications has been drawn to the viral text message allegedly sent by the Mobile Network Operator MTN Niger ia and other Mobile Operators notifying subscribers of a four naira (N4:00) charge per 20 seconds on USSD access to banking services from the 21st of October 2019,” he said in a stat...

Some telecommunications network service providers have sent notices to their customers of the new charge. “Please note that from Oct 21, we will charge N4 per 20 seconds for USSD access to banking services. Conversion of animal waste to bio-gas is being heralded as the next enabling technology, which will boost the off-grid lighting market in the country. The bio-gas, produce from the plant is currently being use to power the Ikorodu Mini Abattoir, at Ebute road, Ikorodu, Lagos State for close six hours every day. The tripartite project, which commenced September last year was completed and commissioned recently. The bio-gas plant is expected to save the abattoir substantial funds used in buying fuel for its generators. The plant will also produces organic fertilizer. The project was between Lagos State government, Friends of the Environment (FOTE) and HIS Bio-gas. Essentially, the project was based on design, build, supply and maintain basis. Isa Patanmi, the minister of communications technology, recently directed the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) to block 9.2 million telephone lines. In a statement released by the ministry, Pantami had said the lines did not meet the proper registration standards. “The Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) has submitted its baseline short-term performance targets report. South African authorities have granted landing permit to Air Peace Flight B777 to enable it to evacuate some 320 Nigerians escaping from xenophobia in that country, a Nigerian consular officer has confirmed. Nigeria’s Consul-General in Johannesburg, Mr. Godwin Adama, made the confirmation in a telephone interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday. Adama spoke against the background of a complaint by the Managing Director of Air Peace, Chief Allen Onyema. Onyema had said that the refusal of South Africa to grant the permit made it impossible for the flight to leave Lagos at 1 a.m. for Johannesburg to convey the second batch of returnees. But Adama said the permit had been granted the airline and that the flight would be late in the night of Tuesday. The Nigerian Mission in South Africa has said that no fewer than 400 Nigerians have indicated interest and registered to be evacuated from South Africa following the recent xenophobic attacks. Nigeria’s Consul General in Johannesburg, Godwin Adama, said this in a telephone interview with News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday in Abuja. Adama noted that Air Peace had offered to airlift those willing to return home sequel to the attacks on Nigerians and their businesses by South Africans.
