Three Nigerians have been injured in fresh xenophobic attacks in Mpumalanga Province, South Africa, PUNCH reports. This comes less than a week after a Nigerian, Ikenna Otugo, was reportedly stabbed to death by unknown persons in Empageni, South Africa. President of the Nigerian Union South Africa, Adetola Olubajo, confirmed the attacks, saying the incident began in the early hours of Tuesday. South African authorities have granted landing permit to Air Peace Flight B777 to enable it to evacuate some 320 Nigerians escaping from xenophobia in that country, a Nigerian consular officer has confirmed. Nigeria’s Consul-General in Johannesburg, Mr. Godwin Adama, made the confirmation in a telephone interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday. Adama spoke against the background of a complaint by the Managing Director of Air Peace, Chief Allen Onyema. Onyema had said that the refusal of South Africa to grant the permit made it impossible for the flight to leave Lagos at 1 a.m. for Johannesburg to convey the second batch of returnees. The Nigerian Mission in South Africa has said that no fewer than 400 Nigerians have indicated interest and registered to be evacuated from South Africa following the recent xenophobic attacks. Nigeria’s Consul General in Johannesburg, Godwin Adama, said this in a telephone interview with News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday in Abuja. Adama noted that Air Peace had offered to airlift those willing to return home sequel to the attacks on Nigerians and their businesses by South Africans. According to him, the first batch of Nigerians who are willing to return home will be repatriated on Wednesday. “We have more than enough for that aircraft. Two persons were stabbed on Sunday in a resurgence of xenophobic protests in Johannesburg, South Africa, according to The PUNCH The President, Nigerian Union South Africa, Adetola Olubajo, confirmed this to PUNCH’s correspondent in a telephone interview. The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has urged Nigerians at home not to avenge the  attacks on their compatriots in South Africa. Nigeria and South Africa locked in bitter  diplomatic row over the xenophobic  violence in the former apartheid country, leading to the looting of property belonging to  Nigerians. South Africa’s financial capital and surrounding areas were rocked by a surge of deadly attacks against foreigners this week, many directed against Nigerian-owned businesses and properties. The violence prompted reprisal attacks against South African firms in Nigeria and the temporary closing of South Africa’s diplomatic mission ins Lagos and Abuja. The Nigerian Police, Lagos State Division have arraigned 83 persons said to be suspects in the  attack and looting of South African-owned businesses – Shoprite and Pep. The looting was carried out as a protest against the attack and killing of Nigerians in South Africa.  A few days ago, some Nigerians attacked several businesses belonging to South Africans in different parts of the country.
