Popular Nigerian activist and Twitter influencer, Rinoula Oduala a.k.a SavvyRinu on Twitter has given a summary of how the first day of the panel set up to probe police brutality in the country went.
Rinu Oduala and Temitope Majekodunmi were sworn in on Tuesday. They were nominated by youths via online voting.
The two persons nominated by the youths in Lagos to represent them on the judicial panel of inquiry and restitution for victims of SARS-related abuses have been sworn in.
Ms. Oduala and Mr. Majekodunmi took their oath alongside the zonal coordinator (South-west zone) of the National Human Rights Commission Lucas Koyejo.
Oduala is a brand strategist and an advocate for social justice while Majekodunmi is an administrator and transformational leader.
They have both been at the forefront of advocacy against police brutality in Nigeria.
According to Rinu via her twitter handle, the meeting which was held yesterday started quite late because they were asked to sign an ‘Oath of Secrecy’ form which they disagreed to.
She also revealed there were 4 cases for yesterday but the first was already concluded in court so there wasn’t much doing left.
"The second case would’ve been the case of the day, but the accused wasn’t present so it was adjourned". Petitioners/clients for 3rd and 4th weren’t present so cases were adjourned”
The next panel is slated for Friday according to Rinu and she shared a link for people that have “gone through horrors at the hands of the criminal unit called SARS/FSARS.”
