Manchester United stars have already begun discussing the possibility of Zinedine Zidane replacing Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford, after a disastrous start to the season, reports claim.
A section of the dressing room is expecting the former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss to get the sack sooner rather than later, with many believing the axe will fall if they are beaten by Burnley on Sunday. Mourinho has overseen back-to-back losses to Brighton and Tottenham Hotspur and United are already six points off the pace at the top of the Premier League.
‘We’ve seen this before and it just feels the same. The club will say it’s supporting Jose but we all saw what happened with Louis [van Gaal]. ‘The players are already talking about the possibility of Zidane coming in.’ Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward and the Manchester United board are publicly backing Mourinho but he is under real pressure to produce results quickly after the humiliating 3-0 defeat at home to Spurs.
While Mourinho has not lost the dressing room, morale has taken a serious hit after United’s worst start to a season in 26 years.
