American superstar Jennifer Lopez has donated $1 million to Puerto Rico to help with the hurricane relief efforts.
The U.S. island was hit by 2 hurricanes – Irma and Maria, leaving much of it in ruin.
The singer has made several pleas on her social media, asking people to donate to aid the island.
She joined New York governor Andrew Cuomo in a press conference to announce that they are sending aid to Puerto Rico.
Her personal donation will be taken from the proceeds of her residency program in Las Vegas, Independent reports.
She said:
What’s foremost in my mind and many others, is trying to figure out the best way to help.
Our island of Puerto Rico has been hit by two of the most devastating hurricanes we’ve ever seen: Irma and Maria. Today, Puerto Rico needs our help. I urge you to support and donate to the efforts of the first lady of Puerto Rico, Beatriz Rossello.
Alex Rodriguez and I, who are both New Yorkers, are using all our resources and relationships in entertainment, sports and business to garner support for Puerto Rico and the Caribbean.
She shared a photo from the press conference, writing:
