GHANA WINS $ 100 , 000 FOR BEATING NIGERIA TO WAFU TITLE SUCCESS

The Black Stars B yesterday annihilated perennial rivals Super Eagles of Nigeria 4-1 to the 2017 WAFU Cup of Nations at the Cape Coast Stadium.

The Ghanaian stars not just won the trophy but also walked away with $100,000 prize attached to it.

The team coached by Maxwell Konadu has been playing in the tournament without bonus of any sort. The sports ministry told the players they will be settled from winning the competition.

And indeed, they delivered the cup by taking arch rivals Nigeria to the cleaners in the grand final.

Goals from Hearts of Oak duo Vincent Atinga and Winful Cobbinah as well as a brace from the tournament top scorer Stephen Sarfo were enough to win the day for Ghana while Rabiu Ali got the face saving goal for the sorry Eagles.

By virtue of winning the Cup, Ghana successfully defended the trophy they won four years ago as well a total prize money of $100,000.

Super Eagles Players Owed Bonuses & Allowances (Read Full Gist)

Nigeria’s players are in dispute with the country’s football federation in the build-up to their Africa Cup of Nations match against Guinea. None of the Super Eagles players has received allowances or a $10,000 bonus. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is hoping to prevent a strike before the match in Egypt on Wednesday. “My player [Ahmed Musa] couldn’t attend the press conference today because they have a very important meeting,” said coach Gernot Rohr. “I just hope the situation can be resolved so we can focus on what we have in front of us.” The squad was an hour late for training on Tuesday and have not ruled out taking further action. The financially stricken NFF, which receives its funding from the government, has denied it was responsible for the delay in paying the players’ bonuses.
