GROUP CALLS FOO PROBE OF TWO UNIVERSITIES' VICE CHANCELLORS IN NIGERIA.

The Egalitarian Movement for All (EMA), a non-partisan society of academics has called on the federal government to in line with its current bid to stem corruption in the education sector order a probe into the affairs the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) and the University of Calabar (UNICAL). The movement was led by its ‎executive director, Dr. James Lawan, in a statement  where he said the suspension of the VC's of ‎the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) and the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Professor Adebiyi Daramola and Professor Olusola Oyewole respectively will
demonstrate federal government's readiness to deal with corruption issues in all sectors of the economy. ‎ The movement called on the minister of education, Mallam Adamu Adamu to as a matter of urgent national concern institute a probe into the activities of the two universities mentioned. The group said Professor Abdul Ganiyu Ambali of UNILORIN and Professor Zana Akpaguof UNICAL have recently been accused of monumental corruption running into millions of Naira in their various institutions. They stated that the minister must demonstrate that there are no sacred cows in his war against corruption in the education sector to prove his sincerity of purpose by ensuring they are prosecuted. ‎They lauded the recent moves by the federal ministry of education to stamp out corruption in the education sector saying it is a right move in the right ‎direction. EMA noted that the suspension which followed allegations leveled against four VC's by the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) less than a week after it was made, demonstrates governments responsiveness to fighting corruption. ‎ The movement called on the federal government to extend its searchlight to other universities which vice chancellors have been accused of similar crimes. The Movement saluted the courage of the minister in wielding the big stick saying this will demonstrate that it will not be business as usual in the education sector. "People with questionable character should never again be allowed to occupy sensitive positions in the education sector considering its role in the building and training of our youths who are regarded as leaders of tomorrow.‎ "The probe must not end with the two but must be extended to utter institutional to saw the education sector in Nigeria.

Kola Abiola, the eldest son of Late Chief MKO Abiola, has finally spoken on his alleged marriage to Aisha Babangida, the eldest daughter of Nigeria’s former Military President Gen. Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida (IBB). IBB and MKO Abiola were friends until the latter contested and won the June 12, 1993, presidential election, but the former would later cancel the election. Their relationship went sour, but before the annulment, Kola and Aisha were allegedly dating. At a time, it was speculated that they secretly got married. Rumour-mongers said the marriage failed after IBB annulled the election of MKO Abiola, which the late business mogul convincingly won under the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
