Governor Ayodele Fayose seems to be stepping deeper into trouble as he finally falls into the hands of the EFCC lawmakers, as he has being questioned how he allegedly spent part of the fund he received from the ONSA account . Following investigations,
- Three houses have been linked to Governor Fayose’s associates who are believed to be fronting for him.
– The agency is said to be considering seizing the properties under the interim forfeiture clause of the EFCC act The Nation is reporting that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has traced three mansions to a close associate of embattled Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state.
Fayose is facing more than double challenges. He is being investigated by the EFCC for receiving funds from the office of the national security adviser during the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) administration. He is also slugging it out with Hajia Aisha, the wife of President Muhammadu Buhari over his allegation that Aisha helped laundered funds for some Nigerians in the Haliburton scandal. One of the houses, the new report found, is located in Abuja while the other two are in Lagos and are believed to have been bought with part of the N1.219 billion allegedly received by Fayose during the 2014 governorship election in his state.
Fayose denied the allegation and named other sources which he said funded the election. But the EFCC, which has frozen the governor’s account, is reportedly sure that Fayose’s associates are fronts for him. It was leant that the agency might be considering seizing the properties under the interim forfeiture clause of the EFCC act since a link has been established between the N1.29 billion allegedly wired to Fayose and the three mansions. “We have been able to trace the three mansions in Abuja and Lagos to a key associate of Fayose. Our investigators have retrieved relevant documents, including the mode of payment for the houses.
“Part of the N1.29billion credited to Fayose was used for the acquisition of the mansions. “We are suspecting that the associate allegedly acted as a front for the governor. We will certainly invoke the appropriate laws to seize the assets after conclusion of investigation,” a source in the EFCC reportedly said.
