A National Youth Service Corps member, Chijioke Oraeki, serving in Ogun State, has said that he is alive and not Precious Owolabi, who was injured during the police-Shi’ites clash in Abuja. Owolabi later died of his injuries. Oraeki said that his picture had been used in stories relating to the death of the young man, claiming that he had died. He took to his Twitter handle, @cjoraeki to call out the publications (not The PUNCH), who had carried his photo, tagging several of them and asking that his photo be dropped from the publication. In one tweet, he said, “There are pictures of my friends and I circulating the social media that I am Owolabi Precious. This was however, revealed by its Head of Public Affairs, Demianus Ojijeogu on Thursday. The presidency has reacted to a Boko Haram video showing six kidnapped aid workers. The aid workers were kidnapped last week Thursday. PREMIUM TIMES reported the video which shows the six humanitarian workers and staff of Action Against Hunger (ACF) begging the Nigerian government “to do something” about their release. The three minutes and 17 seconds video featured a veiled female nurse who identified herself as Grace speaking on behalf of five other abducted men sitting behind her. ACF has issued a statement confirming the six persons shown in the video as their staff. The ACF also said that the six, from their looks in the video, are in good condition of health. The six were seen in the video sitting in front of what looked like a white tent with UNHCR inscription on it. In its reaction, the presidency said it “has been briefed by the responsible government agency about the disturbing video showing our citizens, the humanitarian aid workers held captive.”

Justice A.T. Mohammed of the Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State has convicted and sentenced Gagiyouwe ThankGod to six months imprisonment for internet fraud. ThankGod, a 25-year-old popular entertainer in Port-Harcourt, with the stage name “Tuesday Cruise” was arraigned on July 24, 2019, by the Uyo Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on a one-count charge. Wasiu Orilonise, a 37-year-old security guard confessed to raping his 15-year-old daughter after being arraigned before Oyo State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ibadan. The suspect arraigned on one count of having unlawful carnal knowledge of his daughter, begged for the court for forgiveness as he claimed to have committed the said offence because he wanted to test the virginity of his daughter to protect her. The guard told the Chief Magistrate, Mr Taiwo Olaniran that he lost his wife few years ago when asked what pushed him into raping his own biological daughter. According to him, he has been taking care of the victim and her siblings since then, but decided to know if she has lost her virginity sometime in December 2018 at their residence in Omo village, Agbofieti, Ibadan. The kidnappers of Samson Siasia’s mother are reportedly demanding N70m ransom to release her. The gunmen were said to have called the ex-Super Eagles coach with a foreign number to demand a ransom after he spoke with his mother to confirm her safety. 76-year-old Beauty Ogere Siasia was kidnapped alongside two others at Odoni community, Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State on Monday July 15th. Uganda’s Minister for Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, Mr Vincent Ssempijja, has announced the decision of the government on issuance of birth certificates to cows and registering of farmers, Igbere TV reports. According to reports, Ssempijja, while speaking at the official opening of the National Agricultural Show at the Source of the Nile grounds in Jinja on Tuesday, said the move was necessary, so ensure the traceability of their products and to enable them to benefit from the international market. Ssempijja said, “They (international market) want to know where the products are coming from; they have been impounding and banning all consignments from Uganda if they find one box with issues.” The minister added, “Farmers will be registered and their products are given barcodes so that if they find a problem with one box, they look for the source and sort out the problem.
