1. Nigerians will wait longer for Buhari to assign portfolios to ministers-designate
The Federal Government has concluded arrangements for the induction retreat for its 43 ministers-designate with a view to preparing them for the task ahead. The newly screened and confirmed ministers-designate will on August 15-16 attend the induction retreat at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
2. Jega joins political party
Former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Attahiru Jega, has joined the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP). PRP’s National Publicity Secretary, Abdul Gombe, in a statement said Jega would help re-position the party for more nationalistic outlook ahead of 2023 general election.
3. Atiku whipping up emotion to influence election tribunal – Presidency
The Presidency has accused Atiku Abubakar of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of trying to appeal to the emotions of members of the judiciary in a bid to influence the outcome of his petition against the result of the 2019 presidential election. Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, said Atiku’s attempts would fail.

The Governor of Katsina State, Aminu Masari, has disclosed the decision taken by Northern governors in regard to the activities of bandits and cattle rustlers in the region. In a communique, after their security and reconciliation meeting with security agents, herdsmen and farmers, vigilante, and volunteer groups in Katsina, Governor Masari said Northwest governors have granted amnesty to bandits and cattle rustlers.
5. 5 Redeemed Christian Church of God Pastors abducted
Gunmen kidnapped five Pastors of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), who were on their way to the church’s ministers’ conference. The General Overseer of the church announced the abduction during his message at the ongoing ministers’ conference holding at the Redemption Camp, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has explained that it has not arraigned a former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Mohammed Adoke, for abusing his office because he absconded.

8. Kogi: Gov. Bello speaks on accusations of being after his deputy’s life
The Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello has denied claims that he is going after the life of his deputy, Simon Achuba. The governor denied the claim in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Onogwu Mohammed, where he described the allegations as bogus and an exhibition of a blind rage by “angry suckling.”
9. Shi’ites deny suspending protests, vow to fight
Members of the Islamic State of Nigeria, (IMN), also known as Shi’ites, have denied suspending street protests in demand for the release of their leader, Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky. This is coming a day after Suhaila Zakzaky, the daughter of the detained Islamic cleric vowed that members of the movement will continue to protest until her go father and mother, Zeenat, are released.
10. NASU, SSANU to resume protest, threaten indefinite strike
The Non-Academic Staff Unions in universities, under the aegis of the Joint Action Committee, has directed all its branches to resume nationwide protest in all the universities with effect from Tuesday, August 6, 2019. It also gave the Federal Government a 14-day ultimatum within which it should accede to their demands or face an indefinite strike.
